School's out for the summer!

Well, I survived! The school year is officially over and as most of you know I resigned from the school I worked at the past 3 years.

I'm excited to begin a new journey, but my small apartment...not so much! Empty classroom = crowded -already too small- apartment!

I'm sure everyone has heard about Karen, the bus aide by now, right? I can't believe how cruel kids can be. It's almost like they take pleasure in watching other people suffer. With all of the media coverage and threats they are receiving, I still don't feel one ounce of sympathy for those rotten children.

What does your school do to prevent bullying? I'd love to hear what resources and programs you use.

That video was shocking, I hadn't heard about Karen's plight! Our school is kicking off a new anti-bullying program next year, but I don't know much about it, other than a big focus is on empowering the observer. Clearly, our culture is in need of change.
Enjoy your summer, I look forward to hearing about the next step in your teaching journey!

I totally agree with you. It broke my heart how they treated her. It made me so sad that anyone would treat someone with such disrespect.

The abuse that monitor had to endure was awful. There is no excuse to treat another person so badly. I think those students should lose the privilege of riding on a school bus forever. Let their parents be inconvenienced and be the ones to get their rotten kids to school. I actually heard a woman on the today show say schools needs a character curriculum. We do teach character and thanks to all the wackos out there now we have board adopted bullying policy.

We have started an approach called Tribes. It focuses on the social emotional part of a child as well as incorporating strategies into the academics. It has taught my students how to work together.
