New Look, New Adventure, and the Common Core!

So how do you like the new look? I figured next month will be me and my husband's 1 year anniversary, so I should probably change my blog name. Kristen makes some great blog designs if you haven't checked her out already!

You may have also noticed that it's not Second Grade is Splendid anymore. Exciting news... a couple of my colleagues and I have been working really hard  on getting our own school opened for this September. We are naming it after my best friend and colleague who passed away in October from cancer. The Sara Marie School. You'll be hearing more about that soon when we get the campaign video up and running. Anyways, I'll be teaching kindergarten, hence the new blog name :D Sooo, if you're a kindergarten teacher and you follow my blog, share your url, or if you have any other great resources or blogs that you follow, post them!

I also have been working on the Common Core and getting myself familiar with the kindergarten standards. I made this handy guide for kindergarten. It includes a user-friendly list of both the ELA and math standards that I will be sending home to parents and keeping in my teacher binder as a quick reference. There is a handout that can be sent home to parents explaining what the Common Core is. I also made an assessment tracker to log when you taught and assessed each standard. Finally, for those of you who are in schools where you have to post your goals, I made student-friendly "I can" statements that can be laminated and posted and displayed in your classroom as you are teaching each standard. This file is on sale through August. I will also consider putting together this same packet for first and second if there is an interest.

I hope you all are having a great summer. I can't wait to share my new experiences with you all :)
